About the Practitioner at CranioSacral Therapy and Massage in Kelowna
Tia Cherneski has been in the healing field for over twenty years. After earning her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Calgary in 1988; she spent the following twelve years working with families, couples, individuals, children and groups, in a counselling and support capacity, on a whole range of life stresses and challenges. Tia also worked in Ghana, Africa on the “Girl Child Education Project” for one year with World University Services of Canada pursuing her passion for International Development.
Her involvement in massage and physical healing also began over twenty years ago – starting out as an interest, eventually a part-time job, and ultimately to becoming her sole passion and full-time profession. Tia has studied at the Upledger Institute which is the founding organization of “CranioSacral Therapy”. She has completed advance work in this modality, including somato emotional release; and has also been a Teaching Assistant for the CranioSacral Therapy 1 course offered through the Upledger Institute. She has also successfully completed training in the Onsen technique specializing in pain management using a structural and osteopathic approach. Tia also has training in visceral manipulation, swedish massage, deep tissue massage, hot stone massage, and aromatherapy.
Having a background in both counseling and massage has enabled Tia to honor the mind-body connection and has helped her to work compassionately with all people in her current role. Tia has had four years experience working with people recovering from addictions as a Massage Practitioner at A Home Away Counselling and Retreat in Kelowna. Knowing that healing can take place on many levels, Tia has learned to not only listen with her ears, but to listen with her hands – knowing that the body speaks, has a story to tell, and has a way to heal.
Tia is a member of the International Association of Healthcare Practitioners and Namasta, a North American organization for mind-body professionals.
Principles of practice:
-
I feel blessed to be able to make my living doing what I love to do.
-
I believe how we treat ourselves and our bodies’ today, determines our health and wellness for our tomorrows.
-
I believe that regardless of where we are today in terms of our health and well-being, healing and change are always possible – and I hold this intent when I work with people.
-
I am in awe of how the mind and body work together and impassioned to continue learning and training in this fascinating field and to bring this knowledge to my practice.
